Occupational Therapist – Outpatient Hand Therapy

Occupational Therapists provide many wide-ranging services to a variety of people who have been referred by a physician due to a problem with their ability to perform normal activities of daily living (ADLs). This may be due to physical injury, emotional or developmental problems, stroke, elective surgery, disease processes, aging, or birth defects, just to name a few. The goal of OT is to maximize the ability of each individual to perform self-care, work, and leisure activities to the best of their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Ultimately, the goal is also to help people re-learn skills needed to live independent, productive, and satisfying lives.
A caregiver in this position works 7:30am – 6:30pm at one to three sites.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits which impact their abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.
Assess patient 's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.
Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.
Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.
Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
Act a clinical instructor or participate in the education and evaluation of students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s degree.
Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in a clinical area.
CHT, master’s degree or doctorate.
Experience with an acute post-op patient caseload.
Traumatic elbow injury experience.
