Life & Health Underwriter

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Underwriter to join our team. This role involves the meticulous medical underwriting of complex risk exposure applications while adhering to the Underwriting Guidelines. The areas covered include Medicare Supplement, Cancer, and Life Insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwriting: Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite complex risk exposure applications according to the established guidelines.
• Risk Assessment: Assess medical history, claims files, Attending Physicians Statements/medical records, multiple vendors' prescription and health data, and other industry-standard medical information. Conduct telephone interviews to quantify risk and determine insurability.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all underwriting processes comply with necessary regulatory requirements.
• Decision-Making: Make independent and informed underwriting decisions based on thorough analysis and evaluations.
• Policy Management: Process post-issue policy change requests efficiently and accurately.

Qualifications:

• Associateâ??s degree OR equivalent experience is required.
• 2+ years of life and health insurance experience is preferred OR in health and sciences field of study.
• Experience in underwriting Medicare Supplement, Cancer, and Life insurance applications is preferred.
• Must demonstrate ability to make independent and informed decisions.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, prescription drugs, treatments and surgeries for specific medical conditions, and the ability to understand medical records.
• In-depth knowledge of underwriting guidelines and principles is preferred.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to demonstrate strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.
• Relevant professional qualifications or certifications are a plus.
