POSITION SUMMARY:
The Buyer is responsible for the entire cycle of procuring goods, materials, and supplies for the companyâ??s use or selling for assigned manufacturing plants, categories, or Stock Keeping Units (SKU). This role is responsible for managing the ongoing relationship and communication with suppliers, proactively maintaining on-time delivery of raw materials, as well as expediting and deferring orders to support production. This role supports internal teams in meeting targets covering inventory turns, material costs and savings, along with lead times. The Buyer continually identifies and implements supply improvements and communicates risks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Ensure proper use of exception reports to drive material purchases.
- Place Purchase Orders (PO), receive the required approvals, and submit to suppliers.
- Maintain appropriate communication regarding delivery estimates or variances.
- Provide suppliers with visibility of purchase forecasts.
- Track order delivery according to the schedule. Updates expected shipment dates and quantity.
- Ensure regular clean-up of open POâ??s and associated data.
- Ensure consistent follow-up to maintain accurate delivery dates in Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and proactively communicate with cross functional teams if any inaccurate data is to be managed.
- Identify issues or risks that may impact the availability of materials, communicate to corresponding stakeholders.
- Proactively drive solutions to avoid schedule delays and participate in Tier 2 meetings.
- Active participation in Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) process communicating risks associated with materials.
- Actively works with vendors and internal multidisciplinary teams to ascertain issue root causes, identify remediation action plans, and implement solutions.
- Support identification of materials supply improvement opportunities in terms of quality, opportunity, and cost. Identify when implementation strategies (such as consignment, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), blanket orders, etc) are convenient and implement them.
- When necessary, assist suppliers with escalations for late invoice payment.
- Proactively drive solutions to improve turns and minimize risk.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
- Ability to work and interact well with others.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or another related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Procurement, Purchasing, Supply Chain, or another related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment, if degreed. Minimum of 7 years of experience in Procurement, Purchasing, Supply Chain, or another related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment, if non-degreed.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Bill of Material (BOM) purpose, typical structure/content, creation, maintenance and use.
- Basic procurement knowledge, purchase decisions, cost analysis, on delivery time, product quality, and competitive pricing.
- Check and balance physical inventory counts to match inventory records.
- Understanding and knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, how they are used, and maintained.
- Knowledge of procurement best practices, contract negotiation, and supplier performance evaluation.
- Packaging configuration and palletizing. Understanding of lot size for shipments from each supplier.
- Experience with performance indicators and scorecards, understand link between metric and process.
- Process of transferring customer/supplier information by speech or writing.
- Knowledge of scheduling and managing sourced product deliveries in order to meet the requirements of inventory replenishment or schedule production plan.
- Knowledge and understanding of the laws and regulations governing the import requirements of materials.
- Inventory management of the timing and quantities of goods to be ordered and stocked by an organization in order that demand can always be satisfied without excess expenditure.
- The process of the workflow associated with the identification, receipt and acceptance.
- Working knowledge of the procurement process of soliciting, issuing and administering â??opened-endedâ? type purchase orders or contracts.
- Discovering, defining, describing, documenting, and communicating supply chain risks before they become problems and adversely affect process.
Preferred Skills
- The process of ensuring materials and products are available for production and delivery to customers, maintaining the lowest possible level of inventory and planning manufacturing activities, delivery schedules and purchasing activities.
- Demonstrated functional knowledge of Warehouse Management System (WMS).
