POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety and Environmental Coordinator is responsible for planning, development, and administration of safety and environmental programs. This role is a technical resource regarding safety and environmental issues. The Safety and Environmental Coordinator will provide continued improvement to a zero incident organization through effective communication, working collaboratively with all departments, by promoting employee involvement, and by utilizing all available resources.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS â?? (depending on area of assignment)

  • Manage and coordinate all activities associated with organizational health and safety programs such as training, inspections, recordkeeping, reviewing, testing, scheduling, reporting, and researching.

  • Support the drive to a zero incident organization by identifying regulatory compliance provisions and established best practices regarding the industry and organization.

  • Manage and coordinate all activities associated with internal environmental programs regarding air, wastewater, storm water, waste, and refuse.

  • Provide guidance and resources in support of corporate and site specific safety, health, and environmental goals and objectives.

  • Identify and recommend objectives and participation in operations related staff meetings, project involvement and review, and regular communication at all levels of the organization.

  • Provide support for corporate and site specific wellness program initiatives by being an active participant in associated activities, providing training and communication, and involvement in site specific wellness committee(s).

  • Primary liaison for all third-party interest such as regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, local and national professional organizations, and all safety and environmental product and service vendors.

  • Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.

  • Ability to work and interact well with others.

Corporate:

  • Stay current with proposed regulations, proactively implementing processes ahead of upcoming requirements, communicating to leadership.
  • Maintain and organize records related to all regulatory reporting.  Establishes methods to ensure reporting is complete and done on time.
  • Creates processes, audits, and other means to ensure sustainability of activities required to meet regulatory commitments.

Plant:

  • Ensures specific site complies with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Responds to safety or environmental incidents at the site, performs investigations, and implements corrective actions.

IT Support:

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot hardware and microcomputer software.
  • Perform tasks related to server backups including validation, tape replacement and offsite storage coordination.
  • Maintain microcomputer hardware/software inventory utilizing the inventory management software.
  • Provides Help Desk support and perform miscellaneous duties on servers installed at site.
  • Recommend reallocation of hardware and software. May assist with donation, sale or recycle of obsolete equipment.
  • Direct vendor provided services for installation, repair and maintenance of equipment and wiring. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Guide, collaborate cross functionally, and engage employees at all levels including regular interactions with production and management.

  • Assist with 5-S responsibilities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor degree in management, safety, environmental science, or another related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in the safety and health field or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment, if degreed. Minimum of 7 years of experience in the safety and health field or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment, if non-degreed. Two years of combined microcomputer/Help Desk support in a networked environment is preferred when applying for an IT Support related role.

Required Skills:

  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Work, Outlook).

  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

  • Fundamental knowledge of all applicable safety and environmental regulations.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to plan, prepare, conduct, and facilitate clear and concise group presentations.

  • Ability to develop plans for accomplishing assigned work and set priorities with a proper sense of urgency.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to locate and use appropriate company resources.

Preferred Skills:

  • Internal systems and strategies, business systems (corporate, manufacturing, and human resources), information systems, and policies and procedures.

  • General knowledge of manufacturing process concepts including 5S, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar.

SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • The ability to work various shifts and ability to respond to safety, health, or environmental needs on an on-call basis.

  • Periodic travel may be required by automobile or air, including overnight stays, to attend training or provide support at other company locations.

  • Must be able to flex work schedule to fit job requirements in multi-shift operation.

  • Must be able to climb ladders, use stairs, and assist in rescue operations if needed.

  • Lifting (under 25 lbs) and carrying of equipment and materials is required.

  • Ability to bend/squat/reach/climb on occasion.

  • On call after hours as needed.
