The Lead Architect Systems & Network manages the network and infrastructure teams and maintains the network and Systems Roadmap. As a senior technical advisor and the leader of the network and infrastructure teams, the Lead Architect Systems & Network provides technical expertise, strategic planning and recommendations to the University, for new technologies, relating to the network and IT infrastructure. Also, performs the necessary leadership, coaching and mentoring of employees, and facilitates research and analysis to select products and services that align with the architectural strategy.

This role also provides an effective liaison between University partners, vendors, stakeholders and all teams in the Division of IT, working closely with all to align roadmaps and the future vision of systems to deliver outstanding Student Experiences and Outcomes.   • IT Strategy and Planning: transparently engages University stakeholders and senior IT leadership in the development of Information Technology strategic plans and roadmaps; ensures alignment of the Network and Infrastructure Architecture. 
  • System Integration and Network Architecture (SAA): leads the development, documentation and maintenance of the University's information technology architecture. Development, publication and curation of architecture blueprints for common design patterns that solve the University’s technical issues.
  • University IT Architecture Review Board (ARB): leads the establishment of hardware, software and service standards, clearly articulating our architectural guidelines and values; serves as the leader of the ARB to ensure review technology projects, products and services for fit within the University's IT architectural strategy.
  • Personnel recruitment and retention. Development, manage, coach, mentor and network and system team members. Prioritization, scheduling, and resource allocation. Employee performance management using standard HR tools and procedures. Vendor performance management using scorecards and metrics.
  • Training and Awareness: serve as an evangelist for planning, developing and implementing technological solutions that support a positive student, faculty and staff experience; leads internal training, coaching and mentoring initiatives to improve the University's overall IT architecture and IT solution requirements expertise.
  • Execution: ensures architectural design support to operations and project delivery teams; coordinates network and system resources to serve PMO and its project stakeholders as needed; serves as a key member of the BCDRP IT Emergency Response Team in the event of an incident or disaster; serves on the Change Advisory Board; serves as a liaison to current and potential technology partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, systems analysis or related field of study; MBA or business related Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology that includes substantive work in the range of duties outlined in this job description; these 10 years (8 years with Master’s Degree) must include:
    • 3 years as an architect or equivalent role providing broad knowledge of networking and server virtualilzation concepts and architecture.
    • 5 years of experience leading teams and participating in IT strategy and planning.
    • 5 years of experience in at least two of the following area of IT architecture (cloud services, network/telecommunication, systems/storage/data center).
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven success as a leader in more than one specialty, such as:
    • Systems/storage sub-specialty (Windows, Linux, VMWare, Fiber Channel, Backup/Restore, Storage Area Networks, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, etc.).
    • Network sub-specialty (Wireless, Routing, Switching, Firewall, VoIP, etc.).
    • Software, Systems and Integration engineering.
  • Experience with IT architecture frameworks.
  • Must possess both strong technical and business (organizational) aptitude; experience in a higher education environment preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal / written communications. Must be able to interface and coordinate efficiently and effectively with various IT departments and campus-wide stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial analysis and support of a 10 year technology lifecycle budget.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • The ideal candidate should have one or more of the following:
    • Network and infrastructure related certifications or qualifications related to Information Technologies
