Operates electrically powered and gasoline powered equipment and machines to maintain and care for campus grounds and landscapes.
Shift 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Participates in the production, maintenance, and clean-up of grounds and facilities.
Maintains plot garden areas, including tilling, weeding, and planting.
Operates and maintains grounds and landscaping equipment including hand-operated and self-propelled mowers, tillers, and water wagons; performs preventative maintenance and semi-skilled mechanical repair on equipment as needed.
Participates in the production, maintenance, and clean up of community horticulture and grounds including turf, orchards, and flowerbeds.
Assists in scheduling and performing regular mowing; inspects for turf deficiencies.
Controls growth of unwanted species of weeds and grass by weeding, cultivating, and trimming.
Removes hazardous trees and limbs.
Drives Boys Town vehicle as needed to complete duties of the job.
Assists in habitat and lake maintenance activities.
Ensures appropriate seasonal care of campus grounds including roads, and flowerbeds; removes debris from sidewalks, roads, sewers, and turf areas.
Performs interior and exterior construction and building maintenance, including remodeling or repairing interior areas using carpentry and painting skills and techniques.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of a broad range of landscaping practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures. Knowledge of an extensive variety of regional plant life and wildlife.
Ability to identify weeds and lawn diseases and determine proper course of action.
Skills in installation and maintenance of landscaping plants and materials.
Ability to communicate productively and to organize assigned tasks for completion.
Ability to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or agriculture preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Moderate to very heavy physical work, occasionally having to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance and in excess of 100 pounds with assistance. Constant walking, standing, reaching, bending, digging, pushing, pulling, and may be required to work at heights of 10 feet or more. Subject primarily to outdoor conditions in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees for extended periods of time. Exposure to inclement weather, wildlife, dust, allergens, noise, pesticides, and herbicides.
