Stephen Center has served homeless and low-income individuals in Omaha since 1984 with the mission to partner with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty. The Pettigrew Emergency Shelter and Permanent Supportive Housing offerings provide safe and secure housing while individuals and families complete an assessment of permanent housing options. All Stephen Center residents have access to dual diagnosis support services via the HERO addiction/recovery program. 100% of Stephen Center shelter supportive housing participants are living in poverty. Housing transition support identifies poverty barriers that may impact one’s ability to achieve or maintain permanent housing through case management, life skills and behavioral health services. Stephen Center serves approximately 250 people daily in all programs.
Purpose:
The Kitchen Dishwasher supports the food services operations of Stephen Center, Inc. by maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization within the kitchen and dish-washing areas. This role is essential to ensuring a safe, efficient, and hygienic environment for staff, clients, and guests.
Key Accountabilities:
·Operate commercial dish-washing equipment safely and efficiently, including proper use of detergents, sanitizers, and cleaning agents.
·Follow all safety, sanitation, and security procedures in accordance with agency policies and health department regulations.
·Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store all dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment in a timely manner.
·Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dish-washing area, including floors, walls, sinks, drains, and equipment.
·Perform routine cleaning tasks such as emptying trash, cleaning grease traps, wiping surfaces, and restocking cleaning supplies.
·Ensure proper segregation and handling of clean and soiled items to prevent cross-contamination.
·Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or supply shortages to supervisors promptly.
·Follow proper procedures for chemical handling, storage, and labeling in compliance with safety standards.
·Support kitchen closing procedures, including deep cleaning, securing equipment, and ensuring the kitchen is left in a safe, clean, and secure condition.
·Maintain a respectful, professional, and courteous demeanor when interacting with staff, clients, and visitors.
·Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate behavior that supports a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment.
·Adhere to all Stephen Center policies, procedures, and expectations, including attendance, punctuality, and workplace conduct.
Qualifications:
·Ability to effectively communicate verbally in a two-way manner.
·Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
·Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
·Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and sanitation standards.
·Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including:
·Standing for extended periods (entire shift)
·Walking periodically throughout shift
·Kneeling, crouching, and bending as needed
·Pushing and pulling carts or equipment
·Lifting up to 25 pounds frequently
