SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The therapist who is given duties at a lead clinician level is recognized for their clinical expertise. This is an opportunity to gain experience in clinical and program leadership.  Lead Therapists may be assigned to tasks such as the following, depending on program needs, crisis availability for their location, documentation review and compliance, clinical program change projects, monitoring of program fidelity, QI reports, or other tasks. They may be assigned to provide, orientation of new staff, licensure supervision, or supervision of interns. In programs with a small number of clinical staff, (usually, fewer than three) a Lead Therapist may be assigned to provide onsite clinical supervision.  Assignments may entail a wide knowledge base, decision-making, problem solving and the ability to be flexible with scheduling. The ability to work with a wide range of employees and clients is necessary for this position. The lead clinician must be detail oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines. Organized, constructive, and team-oriented problem-solving ability is critical.

Compensation: between $56,000 and $71,479 per year (salary is determined by total years of relevant experience)
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work preferred/Master’s in Counseling will be considered.
  • Three years of experience required.
  • LISW/LMHP in Iowa required. LIMHP in Nebraska preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license/ acceptable driving record.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Maintain an advanced clinical practice, meeting assigned productivity standard and meeting relevant documentation timelines in their own work.
    Assist Program Director and Clinical Supervisor in implementing program changes to meet fidelity with youth/adult programming, contract, audit, or other requirements.
  • Provide supervision of clinical interns and/or other assigned staff with licensure related supervision needs.
  • As assigned, provide orientation to newly hired therapists
  • Provide backup/crisis availability in assigned location when the Clinical Supervisor is unable to do so.
  • *As designated, review clinical documentation to ensure appropriateness and training progression.
  • * Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team to review and assess students’ needs and progress on treatment goals throughout their participation in programming at the Therapeutic School.
  • *Conducts intake assessments that include comprehensive bio-psycho-social evaluations and screening tools, with newly admitted students and their caregivers at the time of admission to the program.
  • *Establishes specific treatment outcomes including goals and objectives in conjunction with the student and caregivers upon student’s entrance into the program.
  • *Refers for individual, family and group counseling services to students and families as appropriate. Monitors progress of these services.
  • *Refers to other Heartland Family Service programs and community services as necessary, either concurrent with the placement at the Therapeutic School or as aftercare.
  • *Provides individual and family therapy to students and their family systems.
  • *Plans and facilitates group therapy to students throughout the school year.
  • *Provides mental health crisis intervention as needed and refers to external resources, when necessary, in coordination with the Clinical Supervisor.
  • *Provides support to the teacher and classroom staff in the form of emotional interventions and recommendations for students.
  • *Maintains a positive relationship with referring school districts and community service providers (attend IEP meetings, etc.)
  • *Coordinates and manages care that is provided by external service providers. e.g., psychiatrists, physicians, private therapists.
  • *Responsible for timely submission of all documentation required by the Iowa Department of Education, the referring school districts.
  • *Maintains electronic mental health records for all clients assigned, meeting established standards of competence and timeliness in clinical documentation for insurance billing.
  • *Is prompt and accurate in completing all required reports, statistics, and other requirements. Participates in the collection and analysis of program related data.
  • Acts as a liaison between home and the Therapeutic School jointly to address concerns, progress, and barriers to meeting treatment and/or academic goals.
  • Always displays a courteous and caring attitude to the clientele, staff, volunteers, and visitors of the Agency.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with program area staff, volunteers, and other Agency staff.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
  • Abides by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
  • Develops personal and program related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and audio and/or visual media.
  • *Creates, maintains, and shares an appropriate a dynamic self-care plan.
  • *Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible to contribute to the agency’s ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
  • *Essential functions of this job is to be performed on company physical work site.
  • Performs other program related duties as assigned.
