We need someone who has knowledge and experience in coding, information privacy, laws, access, security, release of information and access control technology. In the role of Director of Health Information Management, you'll be responsible for facility and professional coding operations, quality and compliance activities within span of control, and ensuring compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation for the medical record and the Joint Commission Record of Care, Treatment and Services and Information Management chapters. ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Provides direct oversight of HIM managers across all clients.
  • Participate in the development of health information management policies and procedures related, but not limited to, release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.
  • Serve as an internal consultant on health information management issues.
  • Plan and maintain a budget.
  • Directly responsible for oversight and successful operations of revenue cycle function by ensuring accuracy and timeliness inpatient and outpatient facility and all professional coding operations.
  • Direct and ensure appropriate MS-DRG, APR-DRG, APC, and ICD-10 and CPT code, and modifier assignment for services provided to maintain an accurate reflection of services provided (e.g., case mix, severity of illness, mortality assessment, and hierarchical condition categories.
  • Create programs to ensure optimal coding to support reimbursement is received.
  • Monitor work queues and reports for outstanding and/or uncoded encounters to reduce accounts receivable and pre-A/R days.
  • In partnership with appropriate personnel, develop and implement standardized, organization-wide coding guidelines and documentation requirements and develop and implement training and educational programs for physicians and coders.
  • Direct quality initiatives and compliance activities related to coding.
  • Monitor coding accuracy and productivity.
  • Review claim denials and rejections pertaining to coding and medical necessity issues and, when necessary, implement processes, such as educational programs, or revamp current processes to prevent similar denials and rejections from recurring.
  • Guide performance from strategy through to frontline operations by giving the front line information they need to know.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Position Requirements:

 

  • Education
    • Associate's degree in Health Information Management or other healthcare related field required
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certifications Required
    • RHIA/RHIT and CCS/CPC
  • Experience
    • 10 years knowledge and experience in healthcare leadership required.
    • 10 years knowledge and experience in coding, information privacy, laws, access, security, release of information and access control technology required.

General Areas of Accountability:


Must conduct business and personal affairs in a manner that is always a credit to the company. Must maintain a good credit rating while employed with the company.

  • Follow HIPAA guidelines for protecting the privacy and security of sensitive personal and/or health information.
  • Follow Signature expected acceptable use to protect propriety and company owned information.
  • Complete annually required Privacy and Security Training
    Performance Management:
     
  • All Signature Performance associates are subject to regular performance management to determine if skills and training requirements are suitable for the position.


Machines and Equipment:


The incumbent must be able to effectively operate the current computer system, telephone system, and other office machines such as copiers and fax machines.


Physical Activity:

 

  • The incumbent must be able to finger, grasp, feel, see, sit, hear, and speak. This position is sedentary in nature with minimal lifting requirements.


Working Conditions:


The incumbent works in an office environment that is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, or extreme noise. Routine periods of being on the phone utilizing a headset, sitting and data keying are required.

  • Remote Eligibility: This position is full-time remote eligible. Eligibility is determined by Management or Talent Operations.


U.S. Citizenship is Required for All Positions and Work on All Positions Must Be Completed in the Continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii.
