AECOM is seeking a GIS Specialist II to be based in Houston, TX to support our Water Resources practice. In this role you will focus primarily on GIS work related to flood modeling, coastal engineering, and resiliency-based tasks within the water resources realm. The successful candidate will coordinate with other members of the GIS team and various project managers while working on multiple concurrent projects in a collaborative work environment. There are also opportunities for task management, report writing, and interacting with communities and project stakeholders on flooding and coastal engineering issues.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geographic information

  • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes

  • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components

  • Use concepts, practices, and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients

  • Lead project specific tasks while working closely with the project team to meet client deadlines

  • Maintain an effective and frequent line of communication amongst team members and clients

  • Spatial data collection, creation, conversion, and editing

  • Database management

  • Geoprocessing

  • Custom GIS development and automation

  • GIS data interpretation and analysis, including rasters

  • Process documentation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Hydrology, or other related field with a strong emphasis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and two plus years of professional GIS experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and/or current Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification.

  • Familiarity with flood and/or coastal engineering issues as topics and/or specific to the state of Texas. Focuses on resiliency-based projects are a bonus.

  • Proficiency in managing web-based GIS applications (Experience Builder, dashboards)

  • General understanding of relational database organization, design, and functionality

  • Proficiency in automating geospatial process using python

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts and principles

  • Experience in watershed modeling and delineating floodplains from engineering models

  • Strong understanding of a wide variety of spatial data (processing of terrains, demographic data, environmental data, etc) and an understanding (or ability to research) where to gather said data.

  • Knowledge of workflow automation (Model Builder, ArcPy)

  • Ability to track production efforts on multiple projects to the standard set out by the task lead or project manager

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn about a variety of GIS skills and engineering topics

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $75,000.00.
