Primary Function: The Custodian will be responsible for the thorough cleaning and maintenance of Bellevue University buildings and facilities, ensuring all areas are presentable, sanitary, and safe.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Restroom Sanitation:

  • Sweep and mop floors.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals, and dispensers using appropriate cleaning solutions.
  • Spot-clean walls, doors, and partitions.
  • Empty trash and sanitary napkin receptacles.
  • Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and sanitary napkin dispensers.
  • Clean ceiling vents.

 

Entranceway and Hallway Maintenance:

  • Sweep and vacuum floors (including edging and baseboards).
  • Wash windows and glass surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize drinking fountains.

 

Office Cleaning:

  • Vacuum floors (including edging and under desks).
  • Dust hard surfaces (excluding desks and bookcases unless requested).
  • Empty trash receptacles.
  • Spot-clean walls.

 

Classroom, Conference Room, and Common Area Cleaning:

  • Vacuum floors (including edging).
  • Clean and disinfect showers.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs.
  • Remove trash and empty trash cans.
  • Spot-clean walls.
  • Clean and maintain chalk/whiteboards, including replacing markers/chalk and erasers.

 

Marginal Functions:

  • Snow removal and salting of walkways during winter months.
  • Setup and cleanup for University and community events.
  • Cleaning of interior and exterior windows, blinds, and ledges.
  • Carpet shampooing and extraction.
  • Cleaning light fixtures.
  • Cleaning outdoor tables and benches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience: Previous experience in commercial cleaning, janitorial services, or facilities maintenance preferred.

 

Chemical Handling: Knowledge of safe handling procedures for various cleaning chemicals and agents.

 

Communication: Ability to read and understand written work orders.

 

Time Management: Excellent time management skills, detail-oriented, and dependable.

 

Customer Service: Strong customer service orientation.

 

Technical Skills: Basic computer and internet skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

 

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and perform repetitive physical tasks.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements during snow removal.
  • Daily handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, walking, and other physical activity.
  • Ability to grasp tools and perform repetitive arm and leg motions.
