Position Summary: Assist in the day-to-day operations of the greenhouses and the outdoor sustainability lab.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains the landscape around the greenhouses is free of weeds and other invasive plant species.  
  • Participate in day-to-day greenhouse and outdoor sustainability operations. This includes cleaning of interior of the greenhouse and preventative maintenance on some of the greenhouse equipment.
  • Cares for plant specimens indoors and out to include weeding, pruning, fertilizing and watering.
  • Plant new seeds and transplanting plant material around campus.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitation of all planting tools and materials.
  • Interacts with Science faculty, students, staff, and visitors
  • Works with community organizations utilizing the facilities and gives tours.

 

Worker Competencies:

  • Education Prerequisite: Must be enrolled in Biology or Sustainability management OR have at least one year greenhouse/landscaping experience.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, noise level will vary depending on the time of day and responsibilities.
  • Works in greenhouse environment for several hours a day.
  • Works with potentially hazardous plants and chemicals.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves and work boots as required.

This is a Federal Work Study (FWS) student employee position that is open only to currently enrolled Bellevue University students who have Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package. Students must have completed a FAFSA and accepted their FWS offer before they can apply for a FWS position.
