Assistant Athletic Trainer

Primary Function:  Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for making independent decisions and coordinating the appropriate Athletic Training Services for athletes, by evaluating physical condition and athletic injuries, advises and treats athletes to maintain health and physical fitness for participation in college athletics.   

 

Essential Functions:

  • Independently makes decisions on evaluation, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for Bellevue University Athletes.
  • Supports Head Athletic Trainer with rehabilitation of post injury and post-surgery conditions
  • Administers appropriate treatment modalities
  • Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles
  • Renders first aid to injured players 
  • Administers appropriate modalities for injury treatment
  • Acts as Liaison between Team Doctors and Athletes.
  • Coordinates appropriate rehabs
  • Contacts physicians for Student Athletes as required
  • Administer therapeutic treatments as prescribed by team physicians
  • Other duties assigned by Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Assists with pre-season physicals, prevention, care, and recognition of on-site injuries 
  • Recommends special diets to build up health and reduce overweight athletes
  • Leads Weight Training Sessions for Student Athletes as needed
  • Assists Head Athletic Trainer with maintenance of supplies and facilities as it relates to the budget
  • Fill in for non-assigned sports as coverage is needed
  • Travels with teams as required
  • Instructs Student Athletic Trainers on basic knowledge in injury treatment, prevention, and evaluation

Skills & Abilities 

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic training or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of related experience required.

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills and ability to make sound and accurate decisions.

  • Flexibility and the ability to operate under stressful, time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Requires the ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality in the handling of students and health information.
  • Experience with CrossFit methodology and functional movements.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.

 

Computer Skills:  General office and internet skills.  

 

Certificates & Licenses: NATA/BOC Certification required.
